Friday the 2nd September saw a hot sun and blue skies as some 20 4 man teams assembled at Preston Golf Club to contest the 2005 Northern Branch Golf Tournament.

Sponsored this year by Morrison Utility Services the day proved a great success with keen competition across all the teams and no excuse for lower scores.

With teams starting from the first and ninth tees following refreshment of coffee and bacon butties everyone seemed to really enjoy the day.

Following completion of the round scorecards were handed to Branch Secretary Peter Jellis and organiser Richard Fraser for scrutineering and recording whilst all the teams enjoyed an excellent running buffet.

After eating we retired to the bar where we all awaited with anticipation the announcement of the scores.

So, there came the results announced by Branch Chairman David Brown.

Firstly he thanked everyone for attending and especially thanked the sponsors for the day, Morrison Utility Services, Balfour Beatty Utilities, J.N. Bentley Ltd, Cleveland Steel and Tubes, McAlpine Utility Services , A B Rhead and Associates, Enterprise plc and Uponor Ltd.

David then handed over to Richard Fraser for the announcing of the winners. Winners of the Northern Branch Golf trophy sponsored this year by Morrisons were J.N.Bentley Ltd comprising S.Grant, D.Shepherd, R.Culledge and N.Lockwood. Second came the Morgan Utilities 1, third came Enterprise 1 and 4th the Midlands PIG. On individual prizes the winner was R.Culledge with 38pts from Richard Locke and K.McCann third.

One particular mention should be made of Martin Jennings from the Enterprise 1 team playing in his first competition. He would normally have been in the running for the most numerically challenged scorer but Richard Fraser would not give him his just rewards following his winning a prize as a member of the 3rd placed team.

Finally David Brown closed the evening by thanking the club for providing such a challenging day and excellent food and Richard Fraser and Peter Jellis for the organisation and hoped to see everyone again next year.
